They’ve got magic to do, just for us! Broadway.com video blogger Kyle Dean Massey and Ciara Renée begin their run in Pippin as the title role and Leading Player respectively on April 1. They replace Matthew James Thomas and Tony winner Patina Miller, who left behind their trapezes and throwing knives at the Music Box Theatre following their final performance on March 30. The production is directed by Tony winner Diane Paulus.
Massey most recently appeared on Broadway as Fiyero in Wicked. His other theater credits include Next to Normal, Xanadu, Lucky Guy and Altar Boyz. His screen credits include Inside Amy Schumer, Up All Night, Hart of Dixie, Cupid, The Good Wife, Sex and the City 2 and The Contest.
Renée made her Broadway debut as The Witch in Big Fish. A recent graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, she has appeared in workshops for The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Hamilton Mixtape, Three Little Pigs and Bull Durham.
Pippin features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Roger O. Hirson and tells the story of a young prince searching for his corner of the sky. In addition to Massey and Renée, Pippin stars Annie Potts as Berthe, Terrance Mann as Charles, Charlotte d’Amboise as Fastrada and Rachel Bay Jones as Catherine.
